another centerpiece

the fickle minded in me loves to turn things over and over here at the house, the “put-it -here-move-it-there” in me makes hubby and the kids a little intimidated because everyday they would see me thinking at the couch, they would play in chorus, “oh, wonder, what’s mommy gonna do next with her little thingies?”

like what i did with the center table during the weekends.

all the same porcelains, i know, i guess, i just so love them all-together. little accent was the yellow wood shavings made from thrift. the lid of the urn was broken by my kid so i had to replace it with those lucky bamboos i had posted it here. see, now, the bamboos have some little shoots, i keep replacing the water almost everyday!

found this moon cake tin can from my cousin's storage

though i felt bad, i never tasted the moon cake, i was glad she let me have this, as i have multiple ideas what to do with it...

instead of sleeping in the storage, it's now displayed in my counter top, as storage for this little confectioneries, or it can be a trinket storage...

I DID PLACED MY NEW PROJECT HERE

cross stitching i made for mom

Procrastination is taking a toll on me. I found out that  my unfinished cross stitching projects in the storage has found new denizens: termites! yaiks!

My SIL introduced me to cross stitching in 1993. i was hesitant because i’m sewing lots of baby stuffs, then. when our singer sewing machine broke down, i had the chance to do these simple projects…

a very simple project i gave to my mom

my mom's favorite

Jesus' face in silhouette. mom was in awe when i finished this one.

my work stills hangs above mom's altar...

surely, i missed my mom, who appreciates those simple cross stitches…i am missing the hoops and the needles, too.

Blue Monday: salvaged curtains

it saddened me that i hadn’t had new curtains for the longest time. and,  suddenly, it gladdened my heart when last saturday, when i was rummaging things in the storage, found and idea to re-do some old curtains of my mom.

here’s what i sewed during the weekend…

found  silk fabric from my mom’s old sheets and i transformed them into little blue swags which i paired off with white sheer chiffon to create drama on a false window. then i added also mom’s old room curtain with blue prints and sewed them pleated style.

viola! my DIY curtains with zero dollar spent!

i fancy those made to order modern silk and lacy curtains, but since i have no budget for that, i may have to used up my sewing ability to come up with something that would fancy my pockets. this way, my blue-themed curtains “newly” hangs in my windows…

LUCKY BAMBOO

inspired by dhemz photo on her displayed lucky bamboo. i started to make my own because there were many plants of that kind in our backyard. the last spiral bamboo in the house was years ago when dengue started as an epidemic and water plants is a no-no in our house anymore. pardon me for not googling much about the exact name of this plant specie.

i made this project the week my father passed away, that explains the late posting.

here are the pix.

i cut out stalks of this so-called chinese bamboo, or lucky bamboo as they say because according to feng shui experts, it is supposed to bring good luck to any household.

i discarded all the leaves. sorry for the dirt, it is raining the day i cut it out from the yard.

make sure you extract all the leaves from the ends of every  stalks so as not to see dried leaves once you displayed the finished project.

you can cut in any desired length you want, just make sure you cut near the ends of every “sections”. NOTE: spiral bamboos such as those we’re seeing in feng shui shops were done while the bamboo plant is still planted in the soil. they use small wires to bend unto desired shapes and sizes.

for now, i’ll stick to straight cut only. the simplest designs for these cute bamboos.

found me an empty bottle of cheezee, perfect to hold a bunch of these lucky bamboo, and an indigenous cloth. just remember not to put much water (to avoid mosquito from nesting in it) and more water would make the cut stalks rot easily. just make sure to wet completely the stalks everyday til you see leaves sprouting.

would it be a nice gift this holiday season?
